Theory & Practice in Intercultural Education
The International Association for Intercultural Education and the Warsaw School of Social Psychology invite you to participate in the International Congress “Theory & Practice in Intercultural Education” which will take place in Warsaw, 30 June-3 July 2008.
The congress will address contemporary issues and problems in Intercultural Education, its theories and practice in the context of social change from the local to the global level.
Sessions proposed:
1. Intercultural Education and Social Change
Issues to be discussed: A) Political determinants of Intercultural Education; B) Intercultural Education as a factor and outcome of social change; C) Intercultural Education and Global Society; D) Intercultural Education in the context of global migrations; E) Intercultural Education in postmodern, post-communist, post-conflict and developing societies.
2. Interdisciplinary background of Intercultural Education
Issues to be discussed : A) Political Sciences and Intercultural Education; B) Psychology and Intercultural Education; C) Sociology and Intercultural Education; D) Philosophy of Intercultural Education; E) History of Intercultural Education.; F) Anthropology and Ethnography in Intercultural Education; G) Methodology of Intercultural Education; H) Intercultural Education in Theories of Education.
3. Special issues in Intercultural Education
Issues to be discussed : A) Intercultural Education, Social Conflict and Peace Education; B) European dimension in Intercultural Education; C) Regional and local dimensions in Intercultural Education; D) Religion and belief dimension in Intercultural Education; E) Intercultural Education as a mean with engagement with xenophobia, racism, ethnic prejudices, religious intolerance and ethno-nationalism.; F) Gender and sexuality issues in Intercultural Education; G) Special educational needs and disability issues in Intercultural Education;
4. Practice of Intercultural Education
Issues to be discussed : A) Education and socialization in transnational communities and ethnic enclaves; B) Teaching immigrants and refugees; C) Culturally sensitive school management, curricula, teaching and evaluation; D) Culturally sensitive counseling and social services; E) Mass media and Intercultural Education; F) Building cross-cultural social capital; G) Developing intercultural competencies.
5. INTER Network.Intercultural Education: teacher training and school practice.
Other forms of discussions and presentations:
Poster session on projects on Intercultural Education; international sources, data bases and electronic resources on Intercultural Education;
Panel discussions on:
- "Politics of Multiculturalism and Intercultural Education"
- "Teaching about religions and belief systems at public schools"
Preconference workshops (30 June) on: 1) Designing international projects on Intercultural Education, 2) Human Rights in Intercultural Education, 3) Art as a medium in Intercultural Education; 4) Intercultural Education and Peacemaking.
Attendant performance:
- Reception 1 July
- Gala Dinner 2 July
- Tickets for entertainments, Warsaw sightseeing and excursions available at the School’s lobby.

B. Time limit for conveying information concerning qualifying the contribution: two weeks from the day of receiving the proposal
C. Deadlines for conference payments (see: Registration Form): Early payment: April 30th, On time: May, 31th; “At doors”: July, 1st.
